Waxing Tips

Q. WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO WAX?
A. The best time to have waxing done is the day after your menstrual cycle ends. By avoiding hormonal fluctuations the waxed area will stay free of hair longer, will be less sensitive and less likely to have problems associated with waxing such as bruising, redness or swelling.

Q. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WAX?
A.  Once a month. There is the potential for 1,000 hairs per square inch on the body. Hair has a 90 day growth cycle. At any time 1/3 is in the resting phase beneath the surface. By waxing monthly right after the menstrual cycle (at the end of the hair growth cycle) for three menstrual periods, you will catch all three cycles and there should be dramatic results. When you wax sporadically or in the middle of the cycle, you are only getting the hairs on the surface, not the hair on its way up. If you wax during the second half of the cycle, the hair is growing so fast that it will appear as though the hairs were broken off rather than removed. Very often, you will continue to feel feathery stubble from the hairs on the way through until all three hair growth phases have been met.

Q. DOES IT HURT?
A. To help relieve inflammation and discomfort, you may want to take Ibuprofen one hour before your waxing appointment. If you are especially sensitive, please let me know so that I can use a special wax on sensitive area

Q. HOW LONG SHOULD THE HAIR BE BEFORE WAXING?
A. Hair needs to be almost 1/4 inch to be waxed efficiently, especially coarse hair. Bikini waxing: For your own comfort, please pre-trim longer hair.

Q. CONTRAINDICATIONS
A. NO waxing if you are using or have recently used Accutane, Retin-A, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or anything that would make your skin sensitive. No tanning for at least a week. STAY OUT OF THE SUN and use a sunscreen SPF15+ daily. Waxing + Sun = Brown Spots (pigmentation)

Q. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
A. Since the waxing products will stain, please wear old underwear or use our disposables to protect your clothing. To remove any left over wax residue from your skin, use an oil product such as baby oil.
